Q&A With Julia Stone - Donor Stories

Julia Stone, an environmental scientist at the Philadelphia Water Department, works day-to-day to provide our communities with healthier and cleaner environments. Stone is also a strong supporter of grassroots organizations, which she believes is where real change happens from within communities. She became aware of our organization and after learning more about our mission to increase soccer accessibility and affordability in Kensington, Stone knew that she wanted to support our Club’s efforts and decided to make a donation.

We sat down with Julia to learn more about why she contributes.

Q: Why did you choose to support Kennington Soccer Club?

A: The world we live in is fundamentally unequal and unfair in a lot of ways that I don’t have the power to change. [Kensington Soccer Club] is doing the work that can give kids a chance to have fun and build up all those resume-worthy skills that people need to succeed in this world.

Q: What about the Club stood out to you when you were considering donating? Was it an “on the field” or “off the field" thing?

A: On the field stuff is important. Soccer is a great game but I wish that every kid had access to all of the exciting opportunities that I had access to as a kid. Folks that are on the ground experiencing their lives firsthand know what they need and just need to build the power, which is hard to do. They need to build the power to get what they need.

Q: How does it feel when you make a donation to the Club?

A: I feel like it's valuable. People that are involved really enjoy it and from the outside, I’ve watched kids going from playing on the team to being coaches and going to colleges. Playing soccer in college—that's their path through. That’s really important.

Q: What would you say to people considering donating to the Club?

A: Do it! Every amount is valuable and wonderful.
