KENSINGTON SOCCER CLUB OVERVIEW

Help us eliminate barriers by coordinating recreational soccer programs at multiple sites and by building out our travel programs to serve all genders, ages, ethnicities, and incomes with a positive, fun, and inclusive culture.

Program and Job Overview:

We have been running inclusive pay-what-you-can recreational and travel programs for all ages since 2012. We’ve recently been expanding to add recreational programs at more locations so children and families have somewhere they can walk to and we’re planning to add even more locations. For our travel teams, we want to expand to make sure we have girls teams for every age and that all our teams are diverse, inclusive, and accessible. We also want to explore the creation of programs for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. With all these programs, we want to make sure we’re supporting our coaches to run quality sessions that engage all the children and incorporate trauma-informed methodology while improving soccer skills, having fun, and developing the whole child.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and work collaboratively with our other program directors and administrative staff.

  • Assist in the coach hiring process.

  • Work with coaches to ensure that:

    • players are safe, engaged, active, and learning.

    • soccer sessions are organized, planned, and fun.

    • coaches are supportive, positive, prepared, and professional.

  • Guide coaches to use the curriculum and principles of Soccer For Success and other best practices.

  • Evaluation and guidance: give coaches formal and informal feedback for growth and improvement in a supportive manner.

  • Help identify challenges and problems and work collaboratively to problem-solve.

  • Help develop, coordinate, and perfect all our systems including data collection, communication, attendance, task-tracking, etc.

  • Manage coach call-outs. Be available to be contacted by the coach, find a substitute, be a substitute yourself, and/or cancel the session if absolutely necessary.

  • Communicate frequently and professionally with any program partners to ensure that KSC is getting what it needs from the partner and delivering what we have promised.

  • Help plan program expansion and any needed program changes.

  • Plan sites and schedules including in-house and travel leagues.

  • Manage coach training and ongoing supervision and professional development.

  • Organize and carry out program evaluation systems.

  • Ensure that program data is collected and entered.

  • Coordinate with our OST after-school and summer programs.

  • Coordinate with our Teen Leadership Initiative program staff to place teen leaders at recreational and travel sites as assistant coaches.

  • Maintain player/family and staff communication systems.

  • Ensure that each site has enough equipment and that it’s organized and maintained and assist with inventory management systems.

  • Coordinate and schedule the use of club vehicles for travel and recreational programs.

  • Support families to carpool for travel games.

  • Supervise recreational and travel sites and collaborate with other staff to make sure all sites are supervised.

  • Maintain incident-reporting procedures.

  • Organize to improve our tot soccer program for our youngest children.

  • Assist with field and facility management and procedures including making sure we playing areas are safe and left clean.

  • Respond to travel and rec inquiries on various communication platforms.

  • Integrate volunteers from among parents, the community, and others.

  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching soccer and managing soccer coaches.

  • Familiarity with and experience using trauma-informed practices.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team player and leader who can positively and productively impact programmatic excellence.

  • Ability to facilitate outcome driven meetings.

  • Ability to coach staff on professional development toward excellence.

  • Ability to take the initiative in reaching out to recreation centers and partner organizations.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other staff members.

  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

  • Superior management and organizational skills.

  • Driver’s license and a vehicle for site visits.

  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Philadelphia and Kensington is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.

  • As a condition of employment, employees must have proof that they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Compensation:

$40,000 to $55,000 (full time salary position)

Position Classification:

Full-time salaried exempt administrative employee.

Schedule:

  • Approximately 40 hours a week. Some weeks will be less busy and other weeks more busy.

  • Weekdays late afternoon and evening.

  • Weekends daytime.

  • Weekly days off will be scheduled in coordination with the other program director and director of operations to make sure all days are covered.

Location:

  • Some planning and coordinating work can be done from home, but many days will require work from the KSC office in the afternoons.

  • During evening and weekend program hours, you will work at a variety of program locations in and around Kensington.
