Coach Across America
The Kensington Soccer Club has four positions open through the nationally renowned Coach Across America, the first national service program to identify and train young adults to coach and mentor kids in low income communities. We will be hiring for these jobs by June 22nd and applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Click here for more information about Coach Across America.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Coach in and help develop Kensington Soccer Club Intramural programs, in-school programs, travel teams, soccer clinics, and a variety of outreach activities.
- Develop, and implement individualized instruction and behavior management plan to match the needs of the team and the individual players.
- Monitor and assess program participants' behavior, fitness, soccer performance, attendance, socialization, etc.
- Complete appropriate written reports, plans, and records relative to the PCETS / KSC and the CAA program (attendance, behavior reports, incident reports, etc.) in a professional and timely manner.
- Cooperate and communicate as a staff team member through formal meetings and informal consultations.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians.
- Communicate with and supervise volunteers and other support personnel, setting clear expectations of their roles on the field and in the classroom with the goal of ensuring best practices for all students/ players.
- Effectively motivate students / players to comply with expectations and rules.
- Maintain instructional materials for use by program participants.
- Maintain an organized and neat environment.
- Ensure compliance with PCETS / KSC policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and reporting suspected abuse.
Additionally, the AmeriCorps CAA Coach will:
- Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport,using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports’ best in class training events.
- Perform data collection activities such as directed by your CAA Program Manager.
- Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served.
CAA AmeriCorps Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of the AmeriCorps program:
- Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by last day of coach contract.
- Attendance at the CAA orientation.
- Completion of twice monthly America Learns reflection logs at an 80% level or higher.
- Completion of timesheets.
- Attendance at a day of service.
- Attend/participate in CAA trainings, meetings, and special initiatives.
- Attend Coach Training Institute (date to be announced by CAA Program Manager).
Eligibility & Qualifications
General Americorps Eligibility and Qualifications
- AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
- AmeriCorps Members must be 18 years old.
- AmeriCorps Members must have, or be working toward a High School diploma, GED or it’s equivalent.
Specific Kensington Soccer Club Eligibility and Qualifications
- Experience playing soccer and love of the sport. Experience delivering soccer instruction in a camp, recreational or travel setting a strong plus.
- Experience working with children in underserved communities.
- Ability and willingness to work with students of all ages and skill levels.
- Effective communication skills and ability to quickly form trusting relationships with children, adolescents, and parents.
- Experience working with children from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Sufficient mobility, coordination and body strength to safely demonstrate soccer drills.
- Demonstrated commitment to community service, community engagement, or community organizing.
- Demonstrated trustworthiness, reliability and time management ability.
- Current or previous post-secondary enrollment a plus.
- Spanish language ability preferred. Knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese and other languages preferred.
- Excellent organizational and computer skills preferred.
- Ability to administer First Aid and CPR preferred.
