DESCRIPTION

Kensington Soccer Club is dedicated to uniting and advancing the broader Kensington community with high quality soccer and youth development programs for everyone, regardless of ability to pay. We are seeking three part-time (900 hours) coaches on one-year contracts beginning August 1, 2017, through the Up2Us Sports.

About Up2Us

Up2Us Sports is a coalition of more than 1,390 nonprofit organizations that believe in the power of sports to fight childhood obesity, end academic failure, and reduce gang participation. Up2Us Sports’ flagship program is Up2Us Coach, a national coach / mentor program places, trains, and supports coaches to provide meaningful experiences to youth in a variety of sports programs nationally. More than 1,800 coaches have provided opportunities for more than 284,000 youth to be active, learn skills, and stay out of trouble through sports.

Duration of Service: August 1, 2017 – July 31, 2018

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coach in and help develop Kensington Soccer Club intramural programs, in-school programs, travel teams, soccer clinics, and a variety of outreach activities.

  • Complete trainings through Kensington Soccer Club and partner organizations.

  • Develop and implement individualized instruction and behavior management plan to match the needs of the team and the individual players.

  • Monitor and assess program participants' behavior, fitness, soccer performance, attendance, and socialization.

  • Complete appropriate written reports, plans, and records in a professional and timely manner.

  • Cooperate and communicate as a staff team member through formal meetings and informal consultations.

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians.

  • Communicate with and supervise volunteers and other support personnel, setting clear expectations of their roles on the field and in the classroom with the goal of ensuring best practices for all students/ players.

  • Effectively motivate students / players to comply with expectations and rules.

  • Maintain instructional materials for use by program participants.

  • Maintain an organized and neat environment.

  • Ensure compliance with PCETS / KSC policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and reporting suspected abuse.

  • Actively recruit volunteers, including parent participation in mentoring activities

Additionally, the AmeriCorps Up2Us Coach will:

  • Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport, using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports’ best in class training events

  • Perform data collection activities such as rosters, attendance, etc. directed by your Up2Us Sports Program Manager

  • Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served

Up2Us AmeriCorps Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of the AmeriCorps program:

  • Completion of the minimum required hours of service (900 hours) and training by last day of coach contract

  • Attendance at the Up2Us Coach orientation

  • Completion of twice monthly America Learns reflection logs at an 80% level or higher

  • Completion of bi-weekly timesheets

  • Attend/participate in Up2Us Sports trainings, meetings, and special initiatives

  • Attend Coach Training Institute

Compensation:

Up2Us Sports’ AmeriCorps coaches will receive an annual living allowance of $7,770 delivered via bi-weekly stipends. Upon a successful competition of a year of service, coaches will receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $2,907.50.

Qualifications:

· Passionate about soccer and sports

· Experience working with or volunteering with at risk/underprivileged youth

· Adherence to the organizational mission, values and strategy

· Must be at least 18 years with high school diploma or GED

· US Citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Alien, or have a legal permit or VISA

· Good interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, patience and follow-through required

· Minimum of 1-year experience playing or coaching soccer
